TAMESIDE JUNIOR ACCORDION BAND NEWS LETTER JUNE 2007
Tameside Youngsters win National Title
I am delighted to report that the Band are the United Kingdom Preparatory Orchestra Champions. They won the title at the Nationals held in Scarborough on Saturday May 5th.
They won the Area Championship in November which qualified them to represent the North West and they certainly didn't let our Area down.
Their ages range from 7 years to 15 and live in the Tameside and Grt Manchester Area.
They have all worked incredibly hard to achieve this high standard, not only in practising and commitment, but fund raising to get the Band to the event. You will have seen them on the markets, in the parks and bag packing at various venues and the residents of Tameside have been very generous in their donations so a big thank you to them and also to our local sponsor "Windmill Demolition Co Ltd" of Denton Tel. 0161 320 9119 who supplied a set of uniforms, Local people supporting local youth has paid off handsomely.
I founded the Band in 1992 with the aim of giving all children an opportunity to learn music. We provide Instruments and Tuition free and places are available for families wanting their children to take advantage of our musical scheme. Hope you have enjoyed our story as our little band with their assortment of accordions have triumphed over the big guns from Scotland and the rest of the UK and have brought home the title. A first for Tameside and the North West. Betty Pollard Founder/Musical Director
INVITE TO INTERNATIONAL ACCORDION FESTIVAL
This year’s Caister Accordion Festival takes place from November 2nd/6th at Haven Holiday Park, Caister, Norfolk.
The impressive guest list is as follows:- Vladimir Ushakov, Svetlana Stavitskia and Sergei Likhachov (Russia), Bernadette Conlon (Australia),Giancarlo Caporilli (Italy), Gary Blair, Harry Hussey, Amaryllis, Romano Viazzani, Bert Santilly and Norvic Concordia. Work shops, Master classes and lots more will be going on over the weekend.
The Band are busy raising money to attend this event as schools accept that it is educational.
If they are succesful in the fund raising drive our Members will rub shoulders with International stars, will attend Master Classes run by these virtuoso performers, join accordion orchestra workshops learning new music under well known Musical Directors and go to the evening concerts where they will be entertained by the stars.
This highly motivating experience moves our youngsters onwards and upwards as they put into practice all that has been learned
