WORLD ACCORDION DAY

The Confédération Internationale des Accordéonistes (CIA) is pleased to announce the official launching of World Accordion Day.
Join us on May 6th (the day the accordion was patented in 1829) when the CIA will coordinate an annual world wide celebration, in a unified global crusade to promote the diversity of the accordion and the outstanding artists that play it.
We invite you to join our international tribute to the accordion by holding an accordion event in honor of World Accordion Day on or close to May 6th.
World Accordion Day is a unique opportunity to promote public awareness of the accordion, an instrument without boundaries, one that spans all cultures and musical genres. From a solo performance to a Concerto with a 100 piece Symphony Orchestra, from a Duet or Trio to a 40 piece Accordion Orchestra, from the majestic sounds of the handmade acoustic reeds to the latest in Digital Technology, from newly commissioned original works to dazzling transcriptions of the classics, from Classical to Jazz, from Ethnic to Pop, from the pit orchestra in a Broadway Show to the background music in a TV Commercial, from Tchaikovsky to Gubaidulina, from the tiny diatonic instruments to the multi octave concert models, from the shelves of a Museum to center stage at Carnegie Hall, from private Music Studios to the World's most esteemed Conservatories, there is no limit to where one might find the accordion, or have the opportunity to enjoy the variety of ways in which it is utilized.
Our first World Accordion Day to be held on 6th May 2009, will mark the 180th birthday of the accordion. Please join us for this inaugural celebration, as accordionists from around the world pay homage to our wonderful instrument. This global event will serve as an exciting means of bringing us together in our efforts to promote and elevate the awareness and status of the accordion!

TAMESIDE JUNIOR ACCORDION BAND
WORLD ACCORDION DAY EVENT REVIEW
Everyone enjoyed our World Accordion Day event. The evening commenced with Rachel and the Band performing a varied repertoire of pieces followed by our Higher Preparatory Group playing the NAO United Kingdom Championship Test Piece.
Then it was the turn of our ex members who had dusted off their accordions to show their skills with some very impressive playing. Our audience was captivated and applauded enthusiastically throughout the evening.
Betty presented commemorative mugs and certificates then a huge buffet was enjoyed ending with a very scruptious cake (made by one of our Parents) being cut and gobbled up very quickly. A musical quiz tested our members knowledge
and the raffle was drawn. It was a fun packed evening which brought many old and new members together and it was a great success for Tania and Jane, two of our officers who organised the event.

"The photos are great, we had an excellant evening, a great success. The band and group played really well and the guest artists were amazing. Thanks to everyone for their help and support, especially Jane and Phill and a special thanks to Matthew and Rebecca's grandma for her donation of paying for the room hire for the evening. The World Accordion Day has definately succeeded in its campaign of awareness, we had a couple of youngsters wanting to join the band and will definately make a note for our diaries next year.
